Trixie Friganza

Biography: 

(1870-1955)

Born Delia O'Callaghan in Kansas to a poor Irish school teacher and a Spanish mother, Trixie Friganza became one of the great singing comediennes of the first decade of the 20th century, a star in Broadway musicals and a headliner on the Orpheum vaudeville circuit. She took her mother's maiden name as her stage name when she launched her career at age nineteen in the chorus of "The Pearl of Pekin." David S. Shields/ALS
