Evangeline

Edward E. Rice's burlesque of Longfellow's famous poem, including a dancing cow, a lone whale fisherman, a woman playing the lead male role in tights, with Evangeline detouring to Africa and Arizona on her trek from Acadia to Louisiana. The extravaganza toured for thirty years and was one of the staples of the American musical theatre in the latter decades of the 19th century.
