Andree Lafayette

Biography:

(1903-1983)

Blonde, waifish Andree Lafayette [Andree de la Bigne], the bohemian daughter of a minor actress who was romantically connected with the young Philip Mountbatten, was imported from Paris to play the title role in the film version of "Trilby" opposite Arthur Edmund Carewe playing Svengali. Her sojourn in the United States was brief, sufficient only to complete a second film, "Why Get Married?" for director Paul Castelneuve in 1923. She returned to Europe where she enjoyed a twenty-year career as a film actress in Germany and France. David S. Shields/ALS
